I said last weekend was slim pickings, but this week is even worse – as we move into the summer blockbuster season, there’s a lot fewer quiet, reflective, sumptuous period dramas to enjoy.
If you’re desperate:
Aladdin – Ok, so not a “period drama” more of a fantasy children’s film, a live-action adaptation of a Disney cartoon. Still, the setting is vaguely (pre-Islamic?) Arabia and it looks beautiful, if cheesy as hell.
Halston – documentary, 1970s fashion designer – not what we normally talk about here at S&S, but given the dearth of proper period dramas, this documentary looks quite engrossing – albeit in limited release.
